GOA-(Problem with Game?)

Here's my inventory:
3 Gold Coins
/ Key of Questioning
/ Stone of Strengthening
/ Rope
/ Wire Clippers
/ 7 Bronze Coins
/ Life Preserver
/ Food Rations
/ Tinderbox
/ Key of Opening
/ 10 Red Gemstones
/ Guard's Sword
/ Bucket
/ Sticks
/ Clear Focus Stone

My question is how I can have the hammer in one frame and not have it in the next one??? I no longer have the crate as it's in a shack's cellar and there's no way I can get that hammer again. I had it once. Does it disappear from my inventory and have to be "reclaimed' any time I enter the Stable??? Is this usual or a glitch in the game itself? Thanks for any help. Banan
I can go back just one place from where I ccp'd this inventory and show you that I did really already have that dang hammer.
