No spoiler here, kids.

Over on slashdot, there was a report about the new Star Wars novels. In them, a major character is killed off. Follow-up posts were filled with shock and horror (and sarcasm). I'm not certain why -- after all, the Star Wars saga took place a long time ago (and in a galaxy far, far away). Wouldn't all the major characters be dead by now?
