I'm not certain why -- after all, the Star Wars saga took place a long time ago (and in a galaxy far, far away). Wouldn't all the major characters be dead by now?

He still needs to advise and train Obi Wan.... Wait. ...It's not Obi Wan is it?? No not him, say it's not him. Can't it just be someone of no consequence, like Uncle Owen, Aunt Beru, Jabba, Boba Fett, The Emperor,... or that annoying Jar Jar!!

boba Fett never died. Watch Jedi real carefully, and slow-mo the scene where he falls into the sarlacc pit. wait a little bit and keep your eye on the pit every time they show it. You'll see a man with a jetpack shoot out at high speed, straight up. That's Fett, escaping.
