We had a stunningly clear night, and in my time zone, the eclipse was starting just after 7:00 pm. My parents were in town, and we went for dinner at about 7:30, and the moon was about one fifth obscured at that point. When we finished dinner at about 9:00, the moon was fully shadowed but still clearly visible from the refracted light from the earth's atmosphere as promised -- but not particularly red. That was somewhat disappointing. I assume that all the light pollution from my city of almost a million washed out the red color, but I honestly don't know.

Because of the lack of red, I figure my favorite part was watching the curved shadow of the earth gradually cover the moon. That rocked.
