We had broken clouds which hid it briefly a few times but I got a good look at the first bite and later watched it become total. As advertised, it turned brick red. It stayed total until I got sleepy and went to bed. I have seen dozens of eclipses in my time, including several total ones.

The eclipse that I remember best was one I watched at a football game. It began just as the full moon rose above the bleachers on the other side of the field, became total at halftime and was almost over by the time the game ended.

I was very fortunate in that I was seated on the side of the field that faced east. Also fortunately, it was a very dull game. The score was 40+ to nothing. The halftime show, if there was one, was highly forgetable, and the air was very clear. So I got a really good view of the eclipse.

I felt a little sorry for the people on the other side who kept turning around to look. Some of them kept climbing to the top of the bleachers and returning to their seat every few minutes. Also, they lost the game.
