You're right, it does appear to be an "anglicism". The problem is, here in Quebec, there are so many anglicisms in everyday French that it's hard to tell what's correct and what isn't.

I seem to vaguely remember once seeing the phrase "laissez les bons temps rouler" on billboards or something. It may have come into common parlance here, where English is illegal unless it's in French.

Speaking of odd translations, I recently found out that ladybugs are girls (regardless of gender) in Portuguese too. And they're all named Joanna.
