Has anyone reading this forum ever attempted a solo, single-character game with a rogue (and no retraining... he starts as a rogue and finishes as a rogue) and won?
I just finished a five-month long attempt at just that... it ended in failure. My rogue is stuck, paralyzed in Teralt, about 50,000 gold short of the necessary funds to heal himself.
As I said, I didn't allow for any retraining, so he knows no spells. I did allow him to use whatever magical items he found, and that including buying them (lots of Information Highways and Dome Stones) at the equipment shop.
I did not allow him to "drag around dead bodies" through the maze in order to have extra carrying capacity. He was limited to his nine spaces for items, so in adventuring into level 10 he could only carry four dome stones when attempting to get to Murkon... not enough to get past all the Royal Escorts. My rogue was tough... he had over 13,000 hit points, but I think I'd maxed out his AC at 33 or so without enhancement and it wasn't enough to keep him from getting paralyzed by REs and the occasional Death Wight, Dracolich, Skeleton Lord, etc.
My last attempt to get to Murkon, I tried killing as many Royal Escorts as I could until my dome stones were used up and then went adventuring back through the rest of level 10 trying to find some more armor enhancing items, but I got paralyzed by a Vampire Lord or something. I was trying to rebuild my gold stockpile again when the latest paralyzation occured. Sucks.
I guess I'll have to start over.
