Pre-1928 or so? I'd go look, but my collection is in Tennessee and I'm in Georgia right now. > > Howard > > Well, George IV reigned from 1810 - 1820, so they would almost certainly have been minted then. He was Prince Regent from 1811 - 1820 while his father (George III) was suffering from porphyria. Hmmmmm. Maybe I have my Roman numerals mixed up. The king on my pennies had a beard and the coins were from the 1900 - 1930 time frame. I was thinking that George V never had a beard. Could that be George VI?
I don't ever have any trouble with Elizabeth II. She became queen the same year I was a senior in high school, and she never had a beard either.
I can't wait to get home and get out my coin collection so I can bone up on English history. I need to keep track of this stuff, because almost all of my ancestors were English. Howard
