You're a wonderful person for dog sitting. Most grandparents wouldn't think twice before grandkid sitting, but dog sitting can be a real sacrifice, especially for someone who is not a dog owner. Cooper sounds like a lot of fun, and I hope the barking isn't too hard on you.

When we go away for a week next month, Grimmy the mini schnauzer will be staying with my parents-in-law. Their dog, Benjie, is a shih-tzu, so she pretty much just lies there all day. Grimmy wants constant attention, which is very tiring. At least we had the foresight to paper train him at their place, which is always a good idea when you know which relative will habitually pet-sit.

He's not terribly small, but his legs are so short he looks like his feet are connected directly to his body. But he can really move, chasing a ball or a kid or something.

Grimmy is a giant schnauzer at heart, which makes him a 19 lb (8.5 kg) guard dog. He's generally quiet and alert, but he will bark continuously between the time the front door opens and the time he sniffs the person who came in. His legs are half his height, except when he stands on his hind legs. Benjie, on the other hand, has her feet connected directly to her body, and her back is about as high as the top of Grimmy's legs. Both dogs weigh about the same.

Grimmy can fetch a toy under our bed, but he has to slink on his belly like a Marine. That's a lot of work even for a terrier, so first he'll bark at the toy in the hopes of scaring it out from under the bed.
