I don't know what to think about these "100 best" or "top ten" lists. Travel magazines do it all the time. They need a subject for a space-filling article and somebody suggests a top-ten romanic get-away list, or a top 100 resort hotel list, or a world's best 25 beaches list, or a top ten cruise ship list. I think they are looking for trouble because no two people have the same standards for "best" anything. I had an English teacher who insisted that there could be numerous things in the good or better list but only one best. But what did she know?

Our local newspaper used a ton of newsprint to run a survey to find the favorite restaurant, convenience store, city official, beauty shop, grocery, etc. (more than a hundred catagories). Then they published a "best" list. I'm sure their advertisers loved it. At least the ones who were "best" did.

I think people who compile such lists have a preconceived idea about how it should all come out.

The top ten antique motor scooters are Cushman, Vespa, Doodlebug, Salsbury, Fuji Rabbit, and Powell. But that's just my opinion.
