I used to have mild phonophobia when I was younger. My folks taught me to sit for a moment and gather my thoughts, using a pad and pencil if necessary, before dialing. It's not a problem anymore.

Maybe you could prank call some complete stranger, ask them if Prince Albert was running, or if their refridgerator was in a can, and then hang up. For me, my fear of embarassment was cured by getting embarassed and surviving more or less unscathed. If you're constantly troubled with the worst that could possibly happen, finding out what it really is usually reveals that you'd greatly overestimated it.
