GOA stuck at beginning

I am now playing GOA. I started playing about a week ago but gave up because I just kept going in circles. I am trying again ut still find myself going in circles and can't find anything else.
I have tried every option avaiable to me several times. The weapons shop and the armory shop is the only shops I can find. The house of stupidity is locked.
I can't get through the woods.
I have been swimming on several occasions in every place I can find and usually end up drowning.
Here is my inventory.

382 silver coins of wealth
free trial sword of failing
food rations
diving mask
ticket
dead fish
bucket
rope

I don't really ave alot of stuff and can't do anythng with what I have.
Please help me out. I appreciate it.
