Then someone said "Hey, this is kind of similar to Caves of Steel, except that robots break the First Law, and it's not a murder mystery, and there's no adverse public reaction to robots." I put this in the Van Helsing file. If Asimov was alive today, he'd be spinning in his grave.

IMDB lists Dr. Susan Calvin and Alfred Lanning (James Cromwell as the latter -- what a good casting choice, shame to see it wasted) are characters, which means they were added before production. But the script originally started life as some other sci-fi flick called "Hardwired" about killer robots or whatever. It's clear they didn't bother to change it *too* much once the studio realized it also owned the rights to the name "I, Robot."

Ste "And I just noticed Academy Award winning writer Akiva Goldsman has writing credits. A great sign!" phen
