Being a Red Sox fan is tough, too. They've got a well earned reputation for raising expectations so high and then not delivering in the end. They are in the playoffs this year, and they've got a good team, but I think everyone in the New England area is just *waiting* for them to choke. Because it *always* happens. The Sox haven't won it all since 1918.
Which leads me to a funny anecdote from a recent string of TV commercials. The powers that be are trying to drum up support for a new ballpark in Boston to replace the aging Fenway Park. The ads go through and describe the new park, how it's going to be modern and yet keep all the famous features from the old park. (The Green Monster, Pesky's pole, etc.) They end the commercial with the line "And remember, everytime we build a new ballpark, we win the World Series!" (Fenway was built in 1918.)
