But if you unwittingly create a character with certain starting attributes, he might wind up less bad than a character who starts with other attributes. Maybe a Human would lose to an Orc every time or vice versa, you never know.

Also, everyone gets the same skill points after a fight, win or lose. Your initially highly pathetic party could wind up less bad, because they end up with higher (or lower) Str, instead of a balance. Of course, that's just a matter of guesswork, since nobody knows where the free points will get allocated.

Probably the only benefit anyone gets from loser characters in Monster Arena is that the top qualifiers get an extra round to hone their skills and attributes.
