There's a story about an elderly Jewish peasant sitting on a park bench in Leningrad, reading a book. A policeman comes up to him (he's a Jew, he's got to be doing something suspicious) and asks what he's reading.
The elderly Jew explains that he's trying to learn Hebrew, because he believes that that's the language they speak in Heaven, and he wants to be prepared.
"Ah," says the policeman, "but maybe you won't go to Heaven. What if you end up in the other place?"
"Oh, that's all right," says the Jew. "I already know Russian."
