This (and the "Opposite of Sex" boom mike shot) is probably due to the projectionist at your theater improperly matting the film. Just about every movie has boom mikes and other things you're not supposed to see in the top portion of the film frame. The projectionist at the theater is supposed to sync up the film to the projector so that area is matted out or hidden from the audience.

When the films are released on home video (and broadcast), you won't see the boom mikes in Shakespeare in Love or in The Opposite of Sex.
