> What do you do when you're down and out? If you don't have a method of cheering yourself up, you're going to spend a lot of time down in the dumps. Some people sing, some go fishing, some take a walk, some work out on a punching bag. Different things work for different people. I go buzzing up and down the block on a motor scooter. It works better in good weather. Try it sometime. What? You don't! I thought everybody had a motorscooter. Well, it works for me. > Howard
Motorscooter? OK, I know you've mentioned it a few times, but I never really... is it, like, a motorcycle?
OK, when I'm down in the dumps, so to speak [our dump isn't so bad], I usually pray. I know, it sounds like the typical Sunday-School packaged answer, but it works. I totally unload, talking about why I'm depressed [if I know] and anything I might tell to a therapist for a few zillion dollars an hour. I actually had a bit of a problem with depression [not clinical, I don't think, but I was headed there... if I didn't head somewhere else first] before I was saved.
Then, after I'm feeling a bit better, I withdraw into my music. If my violin wasn't the cause of the blue funk [as it often is, sigh] it's a good band-aid. There's always piano, but it just makes it worse if my fiddle was the cause [looong explanation]. So, if playing isn't an option, and I don't feel like singing, I'll curl up with some good music and maybe a book or a peice of writing, either outside with hot milk/chocolate/cider or in bed with a cold water bottle. Ther's no way I can't feel better like that.
Albert Schweitzer said "There are two refuges from the miseries of life: Music and cats" If he'd added God and books, he'd be right on the money. He's still closer than many.
