East, in it's simplest form, is just a direction. If you will let me pick my latitude, I can reach any point in the USA by traveling east.

The question assumes that east means the eastern hemisphere, which is that half of the earth that extends east from 0 degrees longitude to 180 degrees longitude, and extends north and south from pole to pole. That area can be called "The East." I think at best, it is a trick question, and most people would still think of Maine as the "eastern most" part of the USA.

I came across that question a few weeks ago and my first thought was "trick question," and I'm sticking to it. But where does it say "no trick questions allowed?"

Questions and answers make people think, and that's the important thing.
