The company that I work for is being bought by another company located in another state, and while I still have a job in the short term, it seems very likely that in four or five months it will be ending.
Naturally, I do not intend to sit and wait while this happens. I've already started the process of searching for a new opportunity. I put my resume back up on Monster and a couple other job seeker web sites, and I'll be keeping my eye on the local classifieds as well.
I've only once secured employment through a newspaper ad, though, and never via the internet. My last two jobs were discovered through networking. I knew someone who knew someone who put in a good word for me, that sort of thing.
So if anyone who reads this forum knows of or hears of an opportunity, let me know. I'll send you a copy of my resume. For those who don't know what I do for a living, I'm a graphic designer.
I'm curious, though. A lot of the readers here are still school-age, but for those of you who are out in the workforce, how have you acquired jobs? I wonder sometimes how beneficial services like Monster.com really are anymore. Do they really help people find jobs, or do they simply muddy the water for employers, who have to wade through the millions of resumes that are out there to find the one person who is a perfect fit?
