Not really. You just need to know when to finally stop walking and look around.

None of that stuff matters, really. (Hint: you can't bring the Rink in. He won't follow you, but he'll wait.)

You can go check it out after getting the Rink (he'll wait for you, don't worry), but once you've encountered the Valkyries, I think your opportunities for side quests disappear.
