Ugh-- young writer magazines. I spent a long while trying to figure out why WP [Writes of Passage, a high-school writing magazine who couldn't come up with a better name] didn't accept my stuff, only the type consisting of:
Look at me. I am not making this poem rhyme. That way they'll think it's cool. It's all a metaphor, man, don't you see it? There's no real flow or rythm here, I'm just adding commas and spaces. Life is shallow and fleeting. I thought I'd get by with numerous vices, But I was wrong. Then someone I knew died.
Judges: We'd better submit this one or they'll realize we don't understand it.
Non-family members of those who were printed: well that don't make sense. They're just trying to sound deep.
I later realized I didn't get accepted 'cuz I was about five, six grades below the other kids that submitted stuff and I wasn't at 'their level' yet.
