With your being from TN, i couldn't help but notice your not listing Lookout Mountain. I've been up Lookout Mtn either 2 or 3 times, touted as being a place that lets you see seven states. Well, maybe i've just always gotten the bad days, but my experience makes it more like "See smog that obscures the view of seven states." Bleagh. But i guess driving up the incline to GET there is kinda neat for a kid (unless maybe you were sharing the vehicle with someone prone to motion sickness--that might be bad). Anyway, loved Chattanooga. Hated the view from Lookout Mountain. I have had friends since then that insist that multiple spots bill themselves as Lookout Mountain. I just hate having seen the lousy one.

Then there's virtually any spot labeled "scenic overlook" around the area of Cherokee NC. There's a whole lot of what would appear to be gorgeous overlooks into the hills and vales of the Great Smoky Mountains, except for the small trees that grow in front of the overlooks. Apparently, cutting trees in a national forest is illegal, and the government doesn't see the point of breaking this rule for "scenic overlooks" that aren't. Bah.

To see some gorgeous mountain passes, i recommend Nuevo Leon, Mexico. One of a few sights that have simply stunned me into minutes of dead silence.

Mi "Incidently, another place that really got me was the Battery Park maritime memorial, all those columns of names placed right by the water--a striking image." ke
