It was emphasized from the beginning that the alien creature... Leeloo, that is... whom the med-techs were "reconstructing" was a *genetically perfect* creature. They said this even before they knew what she looked like, and before they even knew she would be a she (i.e. it was said "I'm going to enjoy meeting HIM," or words to that effect.) So beauty was just a "consequence" of her perfection. Heh, right.

The only part I disliked about that scene... And in fact, the major logical flaw in the movie plotwise... Is that reconstructing a person that way will not restore real memories. I doubt anyone's "cellular memory instinct" from a part of the HAND would be detailed enough to carry current memories in the BRAIN. It might have made more sense if the alien Mondoshawan (bulky metal guys with the small heads) were continually recording their memories into black-box tape recorders just in case an accident occured. I don't know; something like that.
