You sound like a smart person, so you've probably figured this out already. Go to your school a couple days before the semester starts and find all of your classes. Bring a friend and go shopping just so you don't waste the time and gas just to find your rooms. Or get lunch. Whatever.

Do you like music? Books? Check out some books on tape (or CD) and bring them with you. Or, if you're really into school, you can tape your lectures and listen to them on the way up. It sounds totally geeky, but I'm wishing I did it last semester because it would have been a great use of my time. And you may end up enjoying to time to yourself, despite the dislike of driving. It's a great time to just think without a lot of distractions. Don't know why you decided to commute, and nothing beats living with the parents rent-free (that was my reason for it), but you will make way more friends if you live at school.

> Also, I can't decide what I want to major in, although I know this is a fairly common predicament.

It is. I'm going to be a senior, and I'm switching my major. It's kind of scary to be in college and not know what you're doing. You worry that you're wasting your money or that you're going to be stuck in school forever, and on and on... To avoid burnout, take classes that sounds fun, even if they might be totally pointless (although, really, it probably won't be pointless as long as you're learning). One of my buddies took an archaic weapons class; on Tuesdays and Thursdays he totes a giant wooden broadsword around campus all day. How cool is that? Seriously, though, Mike's right (or whoever said that); take classes that sound fun and/or that may apply to something you'd be interested in for a career--even if they have nothing to do with your declared major. And keep in mind that no matter how much time you spend in school, you're always learning, and that is never wasted time or money.

In all, it sounds like you're pretty excited to be starting school. Good. College is a blast; contrary to popular belief, you don't have to go to a kegger and join a sorority to make friends and have fun. Don't be intimidated by the big city or the big campus or lots of people. If it's a big school, don't be afraid to talk to random people. They're used to it, and you'll make friends. And if they look at you funny, make faces at them and drool. It will make them uncomfortable and give you something to laugh at. But seriously, a couple months or weeks or even days into the semester you'll be thinking to yourself, "Why did this ever scare me?" You write like you have a good head on your shoulders, so I don't think you have much to worry about.
