Ah, the joys of the country

So I get the mail every day, and I have this old pair of boots that I wear down to get it. Well, we just had an unseasonable rain storm, and I'm trudging back to the house when I notice that my big toe feels wet. Ever since Dad thought a lizard in his shoe was just rolled-up sock, I've been leery of stuff in my boots, and I usually dump them upside down before I put them on. Unless they're inside. Like they were. So my immediate reaction is a mental, "EWW! EWW!", but then I think it's just wetness, because, hey, these are old boots and they have some leaks and it just rained...
And then I get up to the house and realize the wet is kind of thick and sticky. Again, "EWW! EWW!" And I tentatively take the boot off and my sock has a patch of dark blue stuff on it and a small LEG dangling from it. Mmm, lizard blood and appendages. "EWW! EWW!" The sock was hurriedly removed and thrown away, and the boots...well, they're still sitting where I left them, but I think they'll find their way into the garbage as soon as my stomach settles down. I only gave three dollars for them at a thrift store; I think it's worth at least that to avoid having to deal with smashed skink. I'm still trying to figure out how the lizard got into the house. If there's one...
Ahh, the joy of life in the country.
