mutated text... a possible explanation

I would say it's because writing is an activation of both conscious and unconscious autonomic effort simultaneously. When you are "reading" text in a dream you are, in fact, writing it at the same time. (Of course you are! You're creating the dream text as you go along). However, since the amount of the *conscious* component of writing that you're doing is sort of limited -- after all, you're asleep -- your ability to accurately recall what you've just "written/read" is also limited. So your unconscious awareness fills in the gaps with random text that "should" be in the message you're reading. Think about it. Can you actually remember the second sentence in my reply here without engaging in a serious effort of recall?

Caveat: I am looking at this from a neuro standpoint. I'd be interested in knowing how psychology and dream therapists explain the mutated dream text. :)
