This is kind of funny, because last night on a whim my wife typed my name into the Yahoo search engine, and came up with two hits -- both of them messages posted to this here very Forum itself. One was in a thread about nicknames. Coincidence.......or happenstance? You decide!

Okay, anyway, in brief (actually, I'm in boxer shorts, but y'know): I always liked Biblical names, especially the names of Isaac's sons, after whom the twelve tribes of Israel were named. Or from whom they were begotten, actually. When I've had to pick a character name for a computer game, or on IRC (though I haven't IRC'ed in a long while), I frequently chose Issachar, or Asher, or Reuben, and maybe even Naphtali once or twice.

Later on, I found a Bible passage (can't quote you the reference offhand) that spoke of the tribe of Issachar at a pivotal time in Israel's history, and how they had the wisdom to know what the nation should do. That sort of clinched the nickname for me, so I've used it almost exclusively as a 'Net handle. Real name is David, or just "Dave", and I'll even answer to "hey, you!"

Also "Honey Bear" or "Sweetums", if you happen to be my wife.
