I assume most people know what I'm talking about, so I won't elaborate on the feeling anymore. What I find odd is that the feeling often comes even after I've been crying for completely unemotional reasons-- as when I've been chopping onions, for example. Before I realized this, I attributed the post-crying calm to some kind of emotional release. But now I'm wondering if there's some kind of biological effect that produces that feeling after the shedding of tears. Anyone know anything about this?

I think this is a psychological thing, that you just feel like you've let something loose. But then again, it might be the sensation of the cleansing of your eyes, or the fact that the moisture stored up in your head was released. I guess it's a sort of euphoria of physical enlightenment. Does that make sense?? Hmmm...
