All of the Best Picture winners of the 1990s (except, arguably, Unforgiven; and I haven't seen Dances With Wolves, so I can't make a call there) are worthy of it. Not all of them may have been the actual best movies of their years, but they're good enough to be recognized as great. But A Beautiful Mind is excellently done yet wholly unoriginal and manipulative.

Er? Is there a particular reason why you didn't see Dances, or have circumstances just not put it on your "must-see" list. It is Kevin Costner, which can often mean "painful to watch," but if his career consisted only of this movie (say, not getting anywhere before and dying in a tragic accident afterwards), it'd be a decent career. And it's got Graham Greene. And traditional back-drop prairies straight out of the classic westerns. I can understand someone not having seen The Princess Bride (though i love that movie with most of my heart), but i can't see anyone missing Dances with Wolves. Good stuff.

Mi "Well, except for my brother, who can't stay awake through more than 30 minutes of the movie at a time. Don't know if it's the pacing, the soundtrack or what, but it's one of the greatest sleep aids Mark's ever had." ke
