If they're going to go to the trouble of sustaining a "Best Animated" category just to do it, or maybe to prevent having to pit animation against live action in the future, why not animated actor categories.

Given, i haven't seen most of the lead nominated movies, but there's not ever been an animated character like Gollum. Heck, why nominate anyone else? He needs an award. Sure it could be visual effects, but then Gollum would be lost in a pool of other stuff from the movie. I could live without the Ents (looked to me too much like their trees), probably without Gandalf riding the balrog, but i haven't been captivated by ANY movie character as much as i was by Gollum an quite a few years.
