I was supervising a government exam when a student lost a lens. Being a Girl Guide (always prepared), and the helpful sort (a.k.a. irritating), I ran to my office to fetch my handy-dandy glasses repair kit, complete with the little screwdriver needed.

I tiptoed into my office as I had a student cloistered there doing the same test. This student was there because distractions really affected his test performance, and I wanted him to have the advantage of peace and quiet if possible.

I pulled out my desk drawer - the front center one, the one with the six million pens, loose keys, post-its, glue sticks, floppy disks, wallet, rulers, pencils, and assorted bits and pieces. Couldn't see the stupid repair kit anywhere! Pulled the drawer a little farther, and - KABLAM! - sound of desk drawer, and a million pieces of detritus hitting the floor and flying in all directions. Needless to say, I broke my student's concentration. I left, red-faced, giving instructions NOT to help - I would fix it at break.

te "and by the time I got back the computer tech. had fixed it with one of the six million small screwdrivers he uses" ach
