The nostalgia trip

As part of the massive nostalgia trip I've been indulging in since moving back in with my parents temporarily, I spent a couple of hours today taking photos of the area.

I started at my old high school, which is at the base of the peninsula, went down the Hundred Steps (and counted them, so now I know there are really 117) down the cliff, along the beach on the eastern side, cut across the peninsula by road, and back along the beach on the western side. I was going to go all the way around the end of the peninsula, but it is quite a long walk to get across the reefs and it can only be done at low tide. The tide was coming in, so I didn't particularly want to try climbing the cliff or swimming back if I got trapped there.

The school has expanded by a few buildings, but I was happy to see that the ravine full of gorse and scrubby trees was still there alongside the main playing field. This ravine was our Forbidden Forest, or possibly Fire Swamp, as it was rumoured to be home to crazed rats the size of Shetland ponies. Biology classes which required the collection of beetles or worms from the ravine were feared months in advance, which seems completely ridiculous to me now. I hope the current students are keeping up this fine tradition of pointless terror.

Anyway, for those interested in scenery, I have lots of new photos of this area, along with some other stuff gleaned from my stay here, such as photos of a footstool I made and a photo of me when I was four.
