TV ads are intrusive (they stop the flow of the program you are watching) and often annoying, but either my life long conditioning to accept ads on TV stops me from hating them as much as pop-up ads on web sites or pop-up ads really *are* that much more annoying, I don't know which.

Your post made me think, and I've come to the conclusion that, for me at least, pop-ups are more annoying. On the whole, TV commercials appear at predictable times, and several of them at once, so you can use the time to get up and get a snack or something else if you wanted. Pop-up ads are so much more random. They interrupt you at any time and often not all at once. Besides, when you watch TV, you know the program will come back eventually without you doing anything; you have actually *do* something to make pop-ups go away.
