See, I happen to think black and brown look pretty good together. Black and navy might be too close together while not being close enough to match-- I can see that. Brown and navy actually sounds pretty icky (though tan and navy might look nice). But if it's a shoe, I don't worry about any of that. I don't tend to think of shoes as a part of the actual outfit. As long as they're black, say, and match the general style of casual or dressy, I'm fine with it.
