People get trapped in a job and can't get out. I used to know a lot of teachers who were stuck in a small town where the best they could do was teaching. Because they had a husband whose work was there, they couldn't go to a bigger, better job market. Some men get trapped in a career they don't like just because bailing out would put them at the bottom again. If you have a family, sometimes you can't afford to do that.
My plan was to give teaching five years. But at the end of that time, we were making house payments and had one child in school. So the easiest thing to do was to say, "OK, five more years." Fortunately, I liked teaching and stuck with it. Unfortunately, there is more to teaching than just teaching. Some of that stuff, I didn't like. Howard
