> If I may mention another beautiful bit of Bond silence...the pre-credit sequence in Moonraker (which, BTW, I saw for the first time yesterday). I especially like how you can hear the wind blowing and flapping all around them, almost claustrophobically, and after watching them struggle for the parachute for a few seconds you have to look away and catch your breath (well, at least *I* had too...). Of course, I've always liked the silence, actiony parts in Bond films, because that means Bond isn't *talking* (and when he talks, he makes stupid puns that usually involve women stripping). BTW Dave, I don't believe there's a "He did it again, that rascal" theme in the Moonraker pre-credits either....

Which is exactly the problem in Moonraker's credit sequence, except it's *worse* than Goldeneye's. Moonraker's pre-credits sequence is fantastic, and you're right that the lack of musical accompaniment has much to do with it. But when Bond triumphs, an unwanted musical score intrudes -- no, not the Bond theme. CIRCUS MUSIC. Change the musical score (well, and that absurd shot of Jaws flapping his arms like a bird), and the scene would have been close to perfect; instead, it's one of the most anti-climactic Bond moments of all time. It's not just the lack of a climax: it's a true *anti*-climax. The movie's all "Ha, ha, you thought this was an action movie, but instead it's a slapstick comedy! Watch! For our next trick, Jaws will fall over on his bottom! HAHAHAHAHA!"
