[geek mode] I'm not entirely sure that all of what they have can really be called religion. Religion is based on belief; if one actually knew God or whatever existed instead of just believing it, one wouldn't be religious, one would be acknowledging a simple, clear, open fact. And the Elves know the Valar and Maiar exist; most of them haven't been to Aman personally (although there are a few among them that have, for example Galadriel), but I should think that sufficiently many of them were there during the War of Wrath (at the end of the First Age) for the rest to be convinced that they're telling the truth. However, the whole Ilúvatar thing can very well be seen as religion; the only ones who know he exists (or say so, at any rate) are the original Ainur themselves. (This was rather obvious in Númenor, where there was also the problem that humans die eventually, adding the element of tradition) [/geek mode]
So, about the original topic... I have a lot to say about modern music, but I'll try to keep it short.
I cannot stand most of what is called techno, mainly because... wait.
[the OTHER geek mode] There. I cannot stand most of what is called techno, mainly because of its complete lack of artistic value; and since I don't dance, it's of no other use for me. Now, I haven't of course heard any of the CD, but what I REALLY dislike is music made to say, basically, "LOOK AT US WE'RE MODERN!". Now, I have nothing at all against the concept of electronic music; I make it myself, in fact. But I think there should be a lot more to it than there usually is. Mixing the old with the new is no problem either, but when in doing so one discards the original, it is. Especially if the new consists mainly of a bassdrum on every beat and does not actually have anything interesting to contribute. [/the OTHER geek mode]
Please pretend I thought of a good way to end this post and put it here.
