HAH! I wish. Sorry to get there before Beasty, but I thought I might as well answer this one anyway. St. George's Day has absolutely no significance whatsoever in by far the greater part of the British population. Except for me, because I'm bouncing around saying "It's two days until my biiiiirthdaaaayyyy, hee hee hee..." The only sign that it's arrived is that churches sometimes fly a St. George's Cross (that's the red cross on a plain white background, if you're not hugely up on our myriad of pointless flags) and the fact that the government give out free book tokens because it also happens to be Shakespeare's birthday. So there we go. England's patron saint is almost forgotten, and is replaced by possibly the greatest English-language writer the world has ever seen.

Not a bad swap, actually.
