robbak was talking about mounting horses, not getting in cars, but something's wrong anyway. In countries that drive on the right, the drivers' seats are on the left. In countries that drive on the left, the drivers' seats are on the right. So in neither case do drivers get out of entering their cars on the road side.
With horses universally mounted from the left, they can mount from the curbside without having to spin around before starting off.
