I always thought that they just made funny logic puzzle books, and had meetings where people who benefited humanity less (about 98%, apparently) were mocked with clever jokes and witty diatribes which were so WITTY and so CLEVER that common people could never understand them anyway. I have always envisioned it as a kind of secret society, and, in my imagination, all secret societies are made up of men with large, thick moustaches smoking expensive cigars and playing poker.

Now I'm just getting mean. But, I think, it may be a worthwhile question to ask, whether Mensa ever has any kind of worth outside its membership. I often hear "such and such a celebrity is in Mensa" or "such and such a luminary was a part of Mensa", but they never really seem to do anything with their mammoth brains. Some of them work as actors ...

I suppose that I could congratulate you on your success, and I do. You seem quite happy about it. But congratulating one on one's intelligence is very strange, I think; it is a little like complimenting the natural colour of one's hair. In both cases, one does little, if anything, to get it, and would need to use some kind of chemical to change it at all ...
