Same here (about hitting the right key.) But if, for example, it's a classic song that one hears in all kinds of keys (like Yankee Doodle), I tend to go to the same area of my vocal register... presumably the one I'm most comfortable singing in. I've never paid attention to whether I consistently default to a certain key.

Yay minor! And by the way... do you know why minor tends to sound sad to us? I have always wondered, without ever making a concentrated effort to find out.
