He was challenged to find 54 Dave Gormans, one for each card in the pack including jokers. He also set himself a distance limit of (iirc) 150 mpdg (miles per Dave Gorman). To make life interesting, he televised his search. > > He found around 49 Dave Gormans, and the rest were made of people persuaded to legally change their name. Two of those people were female, and two were even a couple. One person thoughtfully named a star Dave Gorman, but it was ignored as it upped the mpdg to a few thousand light years and would have been very difficult to actually meet in person. > > If you get the chance to see the show, watch it. It's a good laugh.
It's called, btw, "The Dave Gorman Collection".
There is also a book which goes into quite a bit more detail, and is equally co-written by Dave and his mate who made the bet, Danny Wallace. It's interesting after seeing the book how things looked from Danny's point of view. Poor guy is being hauled by his flatmate round the world to meet people named Dave Gorman. It is entitled "Are You Dave Gorman?" and is available from all good bookshops and some bad ones as well.
And, even though the original terms of the bet have been fulfilled, new Dave Gormans are still being met and added to the list.
