One very good thing aboot paralysis (or death) is that if you're paralyzed at the end of a fight, you don't get experience from that fight. I'm not sure if this works with Murkon, but it works with every other enemy.
I guess if you made yourself a spellcaster with high IQ and put him at the front of the party, he could get a few QUAKE spells off before he got hacked to death by Murkon, and then the other five members of the party could move up and take his place. I had my front guy, Security Kakapo, paralyzed, and he was a serious loss to my party, because he was my top Assassin. If you had your top hand fighters in the 2-3-4 slots, you could prolly do rather well against Murkon.
I guess you could also die along the way to Murkon, say if you never healed that guy, but then you'd have problems with running from monsters, and you'd be shorthanded from the start against Murkon.
Just a thought.

When you gain levels this way instead of by resting at the inn, you don't get the hit/stat/SP increases -- it hardly matters, after all, since you're about to go into retirement -- but I wanted the character level, as it appears in the Hall of Fame, to reflect the character's experience accurately. So when you win the game, the levels of your characters shoot up to whatever they would have been had you rested in the inn. > > > > Good call, Ellie. I was thinking it would be neat to see a level 0-1 character in the Hall of Fame, but you correctly point out that that is impossible. > > > > But the challenge is still an interesting one. I'm curious, now, how it would be to try to kill Murkon as a level 0 character with freshly reset stats. That, in turn, makes me wonder what the best character race to use would be (because race would be key in this particular challenge) and what stats you would choose to raise with the free points you get. For example, would you beef up agility to the max, or would you not waste any points on it at all? > > > > Would you use a troll, which has more free points than any other race, or would you figure IQ and Wisdom are the most important stats, so you'd want to use an elf or gwuil? > > > > Neat challenge.
