Incidentally, Denzel also won in the Supporting Actor category, for Glory in 1989.
Here's my question about the night though. I believe Halle Berry mentioned )or someone did for her)that a door had now been opened for black actresses to win this award.
I just feel like it hasn't been the Academy's fault; they're trying to nominate the best performances, period. I would tend to say that the door has been open for awhile, and the problem might lie more in the fact that it's harder for minority actors/actresses to get the good roles. So, has a door really been opened? Now that this first has happened, are more likelier to follow? Because I don't really see it that way...
