The most difficult and time consuming task is actually identifying these boat people. Before setting out on their journey to Australia, they burn all their papers, they arrive here with no forms of ID whatsoever and they will not tell our authorities who they are obviously. So our immigration officers have to somehow work out who these people are, before they can even begin determining their immigration status.
Can you imagine trying to work out who someone is when they just arrive on your shores with nothing?.. you dont even know what country they have come from. They cant process nameless people though our courts so they need to identify them first. Its an impossible situation.
But like Samhael said we just cant let 1000's of ppl into Australia without knowing who they are. Plus the more we let in the more that arrive.
All the funding comes out of our taxes.
PS: Oh Dagmar, this board has a Preview function..*grin*
