That's pretty much what I've been thinking as I've read this thread... that as far as 'pausing time' goes, you couldn't just up and stop the flow of time for everyone. But you *might* be able to alter your own perception of it or set yourself out of phase with the normal flow of the timestream. That fits along with the normal idea of time travel anyway... it's not that you're rewinding time itself, it's that you are (somehow) being moved to another point along the timestream. It doesn't move relative to you, you move relative to it.

Of course, the un-change-ability of time is another critter altogether.
