My question is this: Would you really be pausing time, or just removing yourself from it's influence. Time, as I understand it, is unchangable. You can't "stop" it or "pause" it or "slow" it. Time happens. It is a continuous phenomenon. You can measure it to some degree. But you cannot change it in any way. Perhaps creating a machine to pause time isn't the question. Creating a machine that shields you from the effects of time and allows you to act outside of it's influence is the more plausible undertaking. Then you would be able to enter the stream of time at any point you choose or travel along that stream at whatever rate you chose. And that way, you wouldn't be screwing anybody but yourself if your machine broke. And if your dumb machine breaks while you're out galavanting around time's continuous stream, you'd better hope there is a Radio Shack nearby so you can fix it yourself.
