If I disappear today, I've gone to Florida. It's no vacation. I have a friend who is having abdominal surgery this morning, and a cousin who is in a wheelchair. Both live in the Tallahassee area. Hardly a week goes by that I don't hear about another friend who is in failing health, in a nursing home or a hospital. I guess it's the duty of those of us who still have reasonably good health, to visit and cheer up the others in our generation. But it isn't easy. So if you and your friends are young and healthy, be greatful for that, and enjoy yourself.

Having said that, those of you who know me, know that I will probably make a little side trip down to the Gulf of Mexico, and if the wind isn't too cold, I'm likely to take a little walk on the beach and pick up a few sea shells. I'll have a good time, as I always do, but I'll be thinking about those who can't be there with me.
