About two years ago, there was a rather large advertising campaign informing the public that there was going to be a new coin in circulation. After the dollar coin was introduced, the only place one could find it was at the local post office vending machines. Instead of dispensing Susan B. Anthony dollar coins in change, the machines now give Sacagawea coins. > > Anyway, I haven't seen them recently. > > I remember when the $2 bills were issued. There was something about the people who made cash registers didn't like it because they now needed another place to put the new bill, but I was only six. Switch to the coin, you need a place to put the coins. Okay, get rid of the pennies. Nobody uses them. Nobody likes them. There aren't millions in circulation, there's millions sitting in jars or littering the streets. Shift all the coins over a spot. There you go. > > Back when I lived in Europe, we went to the PX to buy things. Every price was rounded to the nearest nickel. It's simple. It works. Death to the penny. > > Hmm. OK. Here is what we'll do. Everytime we get change back that is more than a buck, ask for at least one dollar coin. Then when we go to the bank, we will ask for more dollar coins. Keep them handy and use them for tips, to pay for a newspaper, or when you buy small items for cash. If enough people do it, dollar coins will start to roll and we will all wear out our pockets. I tried this with the Susie dollar, but with only one person, it was doomed to failure. There is strength in numbers, so do your part.
As for the pennies (US cents), just send them to me and they won't bother you anymore. Remember the part about strength in numbers, so start packing and shipping pennies. It may not surprise you that I have been collection those worthless little coins since 1947. I still don't have them all. Don't you just love getting carried away! Howard
